Sim #10 Completed

Next sim, Wednesday night. It's back in Nate's able hands now.

Stockholm/Mississippi trade

Earlier today, Stockholm decided to give up on the inaugural season in the OEL and plan for the future. The Sluggers traded two pitchers to Mississippi for four players, including two high prospects.

Heading across the Atlantic to the Deep South are starting pitcher Oscar Leon and closer Herbert Mantooth. Leaving the sultry climes of Mississippi for the fresh air of Scandinavia are major league hurlers Peter Burkhart and Joey Saez. Prime prospects Jeffrey Yancy (SP) and Justin Lindner (LF) are the prized pieces for Stockholm that let this deal happen.

Additionally, a third-round pick in the next amateur draft was dealt to Stockholm.

Sweden needs runs

Very simple:

I need bats. I have arms.

You have bats and need arms.

Let's make some beautiful music together, or something like that.

Sim #7 Completed

It was delayed a bit by an unexpected trip to the emergency room (turned out that my wife only had a badly sprained foot), but the sim is done and will be fully posted tonight.

OOTP 2007

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here had a chance to play with the 2007 version of the game? Any reviews?

(x-posted to other league's blog as well)

Sim blocked

Many teams have players on the Designated for Assignment lists who have either used up all ten days on the list or will do so in the next sim. I can't sim games without doing something with those players. The game blocks me until I do something with them. They are, by and large, terrible players who were kicked off the major league roster by better players. In any case, something needs to be done with them.

So, if you want to do something with them, go ahead and make changes and upload your sim or send me an email and I'll do it on Thursday when I run sim #3. If I don't hear from you and the players are still there on Thursday, I'll assume that you don't care. In that case, anyone with minor league contracts will be assigned to AAA and anyone with major league contracts will be released. (That's what I did with the players who fell into that category for me.)

So, no sim tonight. Please let me know what you want to do with these players and I'll make the changes accordingly. Thanks.

Record Book - Blank or Not?

I have a quick poll for the OEL owners. The record book currently has a variety of MLB record holders in there. I'd prefer to start from a blank slate, so that all record holders are OEL players.
What do the rest of you think? Blank record book or full one?

Post a comment or send me an email with your vote.

Sim 2 to April 21

I ran the second sim tonight. League reports and the file have been uploaded. Hopefully, it works ok. It's my first time trying this. Assuming no glitches, the next sim will be Monday night.

A couple of notes on the game. The Platonic League was erroneously playing with a DH for the first sim. That's been corrected. I also lengthened the waiver period from three to seven days, in an effort to make it more user friendly with the five day sims. Other various tweaks were made (league and division names, switching the ratings to a 1-10 scale, etc.)

Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns or to post a comment here.

New Cairo team honors town's past

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketCAIRO, Ill. -- In 1937, a great flood swept down the Ohio River. It inundated towns such as Cincinnati (100,000 homeless), Louisville and Paducah, Ky. (27,000 forced to flee) and Evansville, Ind. (4,000 WPA workers sent to aid the town). Where the Ohio meets the mighty
Mississippi and where the floodwaters finally met their match, there lies Cairo.

Cairo is surrounded by levees, including a 60-foot seawall to hold the Ohio back from flooding the downtown streets, which lie just blocks away. A massive steel gate hangs over the main highway into town from the north, ready to be closed should the waters threaten again. Indeed, during the 1937 flood, the gate was closed and the wall was tested. By all accounts, the town was an island with a thin strip of raised highway its only connection to the outside world. Also by all accounts, it was the sweat and labor of the men of Cairo who stayed behind to reinforce and raise the levees which saved this town from suffering the same fate as Cincinnati, Louiville, Paducah, Evansville.

It is these men we honor today. The virtues of courage, strength and endurance were carried out to their full potential in these men who saved Cairo. And thus we pay homage to them, the Cairo Leveemen.

Owner, manager and CEO Brent Jones is also proud to announce the selection of the sites of Danville, Ill., Marion, Ill. and Moline, Ill. for the Cairo minor league system. The AAA Danville Dans, AA Marion Miners and A Quad City Swing have been established in their respective cities.

"Since our hope is to have these teams become a part of their communities' history, it seems only fitting to honor the history of the communities," Jones said.
