Season Rolls Over: 2003 is Underway!

Right, then.

2003 is here and with it a whole new season. We're all tied at 0-0 and it's anyone's ballgame!

Coaching offers are first and, while Mack will set the full schedule, I anticipate the process to begin on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in real time.

Also, as previously discussed, Sylva has been placed on computer control. We reserve the right to place an owner in control at any time.

Questions? Post 'em!

Good luck with the season, gentlemen!

Five of the minor league players who I signed to minor league contract extensions during last season have become free agents. What happened there?

I too am missing some of my players that were resigned to Minor League Contract Extensions just like Matt.

That's a bug in the game. It happened to me last offseason, and I had to bid for them on the open market.

It sucks, I know, and I wonder if it's a known bug.

It's a bug we've run across before. It's also popped up in the SDMB league. I'll leave it up to Nate to decide if we're going to do anything, but my personal opinion is that it's just something we all have to live with.

Everyone is free to chime in with their own thoughts though. While the league is a dictatorship, at least it's an enlightened one. (smile)

I'm fine with whatever we decide to do. It seems like it might be more than a minor bug, however. I went back and looked at my team history, and every single one of the players that I signed to minor league contract extensions last year (except for one, who retired) became a free agent. That's one massive bug!

From the OOTP site:

It appears to be intentional to match existing major league baseball rules for long term minor league players.

Here's more:

Quote: "Well specifically for the minor league extensions. They must be on the 40 man roster or the extension is not valid. For other FA I don't know.

Edit
This follows MLB rules on minor league FA.

Yes, this is correct. This also applies to any contract extention, whether MLC or not."

I think I understand what is going on, but one of the guys was on my 40 Man roster. So shouldn't he still be on my team?

Regardless of whether they're on the 40-man roster or not, it does seem like a bug. If they want to adhere to the MLB rules, then they shouldn't allow the player to accept a minor-league contract renewal.
