In a move that both teams feel will drive them to the postseason, Stockholm and Brooklyn have completed a big trade involving five major leaguers.
Heading across the Atlantic on SAS 903 are outfielder Donald Mansfield and reliever Saul Gelinas. Waiting for SAS 904 to take off from Newark airport are starter James Fortner, who will be the new #2 starter in the Stockholm beleaguered rotation, and new utility men Robert Franklin and Derek Delavega.
"We've been on a trading frenzy of late," Stockholm owner Michael Weintraub stated. "But, we feel we can win this year, and if we can do it without sacrificing our #2 ranked minor league system, all the better."
Reached for a quote, Brooklyn owner Jeremy Goldman said that "Our strengths matched Stockholm's weakness. Plus, they had a surplus of quality outfielders and relievers, something we needed."
Also involved in the deal are two prospects, 21 year old AAA third sacker Clayton Suazo, heading to Brooklyn along with an 8th round pick in 2004. Coming east to Stockholm's AA Vikingarna club is 23-year old starter Stephen Guthrie.

Saul Gelinas is going to feel at home in Brooklyn with his fellow countryman Wilson Abellan in the pitching staff with him. We are going to have a very special promotion night with Cuban Sandwiches and we are planning moving some of our home games to Lil' Havana (AKA Miami)
