OOTP Upgrade

Nate and I have decided to solicit the views of owners on whether or not to upgrade the league from OOTP 6.5 to OOTP 9 at the end of the coming offseason. Please post your views here as comments. Thanks.

I'll be the first to comment. Many of us are in the SDMB league, and I would like to see how it plays out in that league before we make the jump in this one. I think it will be ok, but would like to see it in practice before I jump to move this league too.

My experience with OOTP 9 is extremely limited, but I like what I've seen so far. The features are better. Uploading new league files is insanely easy. There is greater manager control over important functions that would otherwise require commissioner involvement in 6.5 (contract extension offers being perhaps the best example). Also, upgrading to 9.0 will probably make it much easier to find a replacement manager for HAL's team.

So, consider this one vote for upgrading.

I vote to upgrade, as well. OOTP 9 has enough features to make it a compelling upgrade, and, as Matt said, it will make it easier to fill the Winnipeg opening.

I vote for the upgrade too. Progress is a wonderful thing.

One vote against, for now. I'm not happy with what I've seen in the other league (the coaching / scouting debacle, mainly).

I agree with Paul, that we should come up with a plans for the Coaches before we switch over. WE can probably come up with something that everyone will agree with that will help the transition and keep the coaches to everyone's tastes.

One simple solution for the transition to OOTP9 is to just skip all of the offseason activities in 6.5 before upgrading. So, no free agency, no coach signings, etc. Since the league date switches back from 4/1 to 1/1 on the upgrade, it's like a do-over.

I'm not sure if you can skip the draft and FA in 6.5. Well, the draft can be scheduled for later (It's in mid-season in MLB, after all), but we can sort something out like not signing anyone during FA.
