In a (slightly-less-than) dramatic move to aid a run to the postseason (there's only one October!), the Brooklyn Bombers acquired MR Lyman Grimm and SP Fabio Punal for switch-hitting pitching prospect "Honest" Abe Nix.
Grimm sports an ERA in the low 2's and was the centerpiece of NY's middle relief corps. But the lynchpin of the deal was Brooklyn's acquisition of Punal, whose playing days were thought to be over after he was hit in the face with a pigeon while riding a rollercoaster on an off-day at Coney Island. Fabio has enjoyed a resurgence this year, though, after major reconstructive surgery by famed Dr. 90210 doctor Robert Rey. Fabio's support system after the accident centered around good "friend" Mike Piazza, who, at the time of this posting, had scheduled a press conference to clear the air about their "relationship."
Brooklyn Owner/Hot dog vendor Jeremy Goldman hopes the trade will help anchor both the Bomber bullpen and the back of their rotation for the stretch drive, but sees other benefits as well. "We've already received dozens of e-mails, phone calls, and letters from the women of Brooklyn asking when they can see Punal pitch. We anticipate a spike in female fan interest in the coming months." Goldman would neither confirm nor deny that plans for a "Fabulous Fabio" calendar were already in the works.
For its part, New York received AAA starter Nix, the most highly regarded pitching prospect in the Brooklyn system aside from super-stud Tyler "Ex" Conn. "Of course, we wanted Conn," said NY Owner/Janitor Eric Lent. "But we only had one male-model on our roster, and Goldman kept demanding Fabio and Derek Zoolander. He didn't understand that Zoolander was fictional."
