OEL Championship Game Four: Brooklyn Now One Win Away!

Dateline: Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Bombers moved to one win away from taking the 2002 OEL Championship tonight as they beat the Seattle Ministry of Silly Walks 5-2 in the tightest game of this series so far.

Seattle starting pitcher Billy Lowry went 7.2 innings while giving up 5 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk while surprise Brooklyn starter Fabio Punal lasted only 5.2 innings he allowed 2 runs, both in the first, while giving up eight walks, and the Brooklyn bullpen slammed the door, allowing no hits in 3.1 innings to win the game.

Seattle got on the board early as they scored 2 runs in the top of the first. The runs came with two outs when CF Carlos Araoz doubled down the right field line with men on first and second. The runs came as the result of consecutive walks to Schmeltzer and Pullem and the double by Araoz. It would be the last time that Seattle would score on the night.

Brooklyn began their comeback in the bottom of the third, scoring twice on a single by the pitcher, Punal, followed by a triple by CF Woodsworth, and a double by 3B Hyer. All the needed was a home run for the cycle in the inning! Brooklyn would follow up with solo runs in the fourth, seventh, and eighth innings to seal the game for the home team and placing them one win away from popping the champagne!

Will things end tomorrow night in Brooklyn or will these two titans of baseball make the long, dark trip back to Seattle for games six and seven? Only time will tell, sports fans! We’ll see you tomorrow night!

Where oh where has my pitching gone?

Giving up 31 runs in 4 games is not good. My pitching has been terrible from top to bottom, really. Two starts and two terrible performances by my 5.0 star SP Billy Lowry.

Also, some of my mid-season acquisitions have not paid off down the stretch. Presumptive MVP George Pullum had an OPS of 1.092 in the regular season, but has an OPS of only .452 (!!) in the postseason so far. And he's only that high because he had some minimal success against Pisces pitching... he's 0-14 in this series against Brooklyn. Amazing!

It's not over I suppose... but it's certainly not looking good for the Ministry! Well played thus far, Jeremy.

This has been a slugfest series. It seems the pitching has taken a break. That makes timely hits much more important and I have been lucky enough to get them so far.

With that said, anyone can win any game if this keeps up. So I am not putting the trophy on my mantle until I have 4 wins in the bank. This series is far from over. GL matt.
