Dateline: Seattle
Tonight Brooklyn won game two of the 2002 OEL Series over Seattle. The 11-7 win, while not dominating, certainly changed the tone of the series. Going into the off day tomorrow it’s anyone’s to lose!
The game started with a hopeful Brooklyn putting up a run in the first but Seattle roared back in the bottom of the frame as CF Carlos Araoz hit a bases loaded double to score two runs and Seattle would later score two more in the inning to make the score 4-1 Seattle after the first.
Neither starting pitcher did well tonight. If anything Brooklyn’s starter, Thomas Fleenor, did worse that Seattle’s Thomas Holte. Holte gave up 8 hits and 2 walks in 4.2 inning while Fleenor lasted only two innings while giving up five hits and 2 walks on 43 pitches. But unearned runs cost Seattle dearly as shortstop committed two errors, the first in the fifth inning led to three Brooklyn runs and allowed Brooklyn to take the lead, 7-6. It was a lead they would never give up.
After the starters the team’s bullpens came into play and there’s not doubt about it, baseball fans, that Brooklyn delivered! The Brooklyn bullpen threw seven innings while allowing just 3 hits and 1 run. Seattle’s bullpen, perhaps showing the effects of game one’s monster offensive performance, surrendered four runs in 4.1 innings of work. Seattle’s Alberto Hernandez wasn’t sharp, in particular, as he allowed 3 hits, 2 walks, and 3 earned runs in his 2.1 innings of work.
We’re back with game three at Brooklyn after tomorrow’s off day! Don’t miss it!
