Upgrade to Version 9: Options

During the upgrade to Version 9, there are a few things we can change about the game that Nate and I wanted owner input on. We may not go along with the huddled masses yearning to be free (what good dictator would?), but we do want some input on these choices. Please post your thoughts as comments.

Minor Leagues:

1. How many minor league teams do we want to have? Right now, there's 1 AAA, 1 AA, and 1 A ball team per major league franchise. In OOTP, we can also have short-season A-ball and Rookie leagues. So, is more the merrier?

2. Strict league separation? During the upgrade, the game automatically mixes the leagues when creating the minors. So, for instance, Seattle and Brooklyn may have teams in the same AAA division, even though they're in different major league divisions. I'm inclined to let the game do this, if only to reduce my workload during the upgrade, but I'm willing to listen to dissenting opinions on the point.

Post-season Awards:

3. The game has an open spot for a post-season award other than the traditional best batter/pitcher/fielders/rookie. Should we use this category and, if so, for what? Best reliever? Least valuable player? What?

Amateur Draft:

4. When to have it? Pre-season, as we do now? Or, mid-season, as in real baseball?

5. How many rounds? Preserve the current 15 rounds?

Input, please.

For me, not as commish but as a player, I'd like to see more minor league options if all can agree. More minors means more opportunities for Cinderella development.

I league the non-league seperation.

No opinion on the awards.

It'll be a pain but with short season leagues we can have the draft mid-season like the majors do and I would approve of that.

And more rounds the better by me. We'll need them for a few years if we expand the number of minor league teams, you betcha.

My two cents:

1. Stick with the current minor league system; there's already too many A players who are worthless.

2. Whatever is easier for running the sim. I think mixing is better anyway.

3. Comback player of the year.

4. Mid-season, to spice that up and perhaps generate more trades. I don't feel strongly about it though.

5. 15 rounds is plenty. I'd suggrest shrinking it (see # 1 above).

1. If we have a mid-season draft (see below) then I'd like to add a short-season A ball league.

2. I think interleague scheduling is already homogenizing our teams, so if the schedule in OOTP9 has us more like two divisions, rather than separate leagues with occasionally interleague matches, then I'd like to keep the minors separate. If we can make the majors schedule more balanced, then I'd be fine mixing the minor leagues.

3. Best Reliever would be nice, since they never get Outstanding Pitcher award consideration. Or, maybe Comeback Player of the Year.

4. I'd love for a mid-season draft.

5. 15 if we're doing the short season A-ball, or knock it back to 12 if not.

As an owner, I'm indifferent to more minor league teams. I'd probably prefer three or four.

I prefer the mixed minors.

I think we should have another award and comeback player sounds more fun than best reliever. I'm open to any other suggestions.

Amateur draft, mid-season is fine if we can have some agreement on how many rounds are human and how many are computer. E.g., first three picked by people, next 12 by computer.

As for number of rounds, I'd leave it at 15 for a year or two until we get a feel for how it works in OOTP 9. We can always lower it then.

Here is my one cent (with this economy I can't spare 2):

1. I think the extra work getting the minor league system under control in OOTP 9 will be enough to keep us for a season, but in season 2 (2006) I think a short season A or Rookie league would be cool

2. I don't think who we play in the Minor Leagues is that important

3. I like Comeback player of the year, or Juicer of the year (like Randy McGinn last season)

4. I like Mid-Season...starting next season and that is when we can integrate the rookie or Short A season

5. 15 or 12 but not more for now
